You may well have seen from previous posts and local media coverage, that in June 2019 The Great Out-tours had entered the prestigious ‘Rural Business Awards – South East Region’ in two categories:
’Best Rural Professional Services Business’ & ‘Best Rural Recreational or Outdoor Pursuits Business’.
The South East Region covers rural businesses in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex, Greater London, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey & West Sussex.
On 16th July 2019, following the judging of hundreds of company entries across the aforementioned counties, we were thrilled to be shortlisted for the final in both these categories! 😀 😀
And so the nervous wait ensued…….and then today FINALLY arrived. The FINALISTS AWARD CEREMONY, staged at Canterbury Cathedral Lodge (directly opposite the majestic Canterbury Cathedral), Kent.
Farmer John completed a rain soaked Woodside farm programme teach, caked in mud and manure, and literally ran up the farm hill, showered and changed into……yes, a suit and tie!!
Sam Cross – The Great Out-tours Arun (our inaugural franchise), completed her in-school campfire 🔥 session down in West Sussex, safely walked the children back to their classroom, and then jumped in her car and drove the one hour trip to Woodside! Hayley & Trish (our longest standing Great Out-tours staff), had a smoother run, without the frantic work lead in!!!!
Julie Brooksbank provided delightful hospitality, lunch and calming reassurance as the nerves began to build in the team!!!
We hit the road to the historic city of Canterbury, slowed by a rain drenched route across the Garden of England – Kent. Arriving in the nick of time, we walked along the awe inspiring Canterbury Cathedral walk to the award ceremony reception.
After an initial networking reception, all the finalists took their seats in the impressive awards atrium & nervous anticipation engulfed us all! The hall chatter reduced to an eerie silence.
…and so The Rural Business Awards ceremony began.
One, two & three award category winners and runners up were called / heralded……and then it was our first category – ‘Best Rural Professional Services Business’ followed by ‘Best Rural Recreational or Outdoor Pursuits Business’
Drum roll 🥁 🥁 🥁 ….
