This week, across the country, our club children took part in our wildly popular 
‘Birdwatch Bingo’ activity, quietly scouting school grounds in search of wild birds.
Why Birdwatch Bingo
This is a yearly repeater activity, which we ALWAYS RUN in support of the world’s biggest wildlife survey, the 
RSPB’S BIG GARDEN BIRDWATCH.
Game rules:
Using a Bingo worksheet adorned with 20 different wild British bird pics, the aim of the game was the first group to spot 10 different bird species. 
🎉 🤩 🐦 It was a cracking club hour across our nationwide schools, and ALL children were ABSOLUTELY ABSORBED in the watching challenge.
The results:
We were brilliantly fortunate with what we spotted!
Highlights included a Great Spotted Woodpecker clambering up a tree trunk with real purpose, Robins, Hedge & House Sparrows flicking through the hedgerows.
Blue and Great Tits darted between nearby gardens whilst Magpies hopped across rooftops.
Out on the field, Blackbirds busied themselves searching for worms, Herring Gulls swept across the sky above us, as Wood Pigeons sat perfectly still, like feathered statues waiting to be noticed.
It was as if they FLEW IN to say hello!

A message from the RSPB!
“Big Garden Birdwatch is fun, free and for EVERYONE! Be wowed by your local wildlife.
😳 Last year (2025) across the UK, over 590,000 people took part in Big Garden Birdwatch, counting a whopping 9.1 million birds!
1️⃣ House Sparrows took the top spot, but counts of these chirpy birds are down by 60% compared to the first Birdwatch in 1979.
😞 Sadly, we’ve lost 38 million birds from UK skies in the last 60 years.The Song Thrush with its unmistakable melodious call, has seen a count drop of 83% since the Big Garden Birdwatch survey began in 1979.
🐦 With birds facing so many challenges, it’s more important than ever to get involved in the Birdwatch. Every bird you do – or don’t – count will give us a valuable insight into how garden birds are faring.
For one hour, simply count the birds you see in your garden, from your balcony or in your local park, between 23 and 25 January 2026.
